Nutrition Talk!!

Happy Tuesday Friends!!

Let’s for a second talk about the best thing ever: FOOD!!! Hello mama! Wow do I love to eat! I love my sugar, cakes, chocolate and all things gooey!! But holy cow do I feel hungover the next day eating that CRAP, don’t you? It’s as if there’s a knife sticking out of my head and I cannot move for the rest of the day!

After I decided to get sober 3.5 years ago, I also decided to give up (slowly) foods that weren’t healthy for my body. I cut out processed foods, sugars and went strictly paleo for a few months. I dropped 30 pounds very quickly. My lifts went up, my stamina felt completely better and I was keeping up with other athletes at Crossfit KOP. It didn’t take long for someone to recognize my strength at lifting. From there I knew I wanted to powerlift, but I needed proper nutrition guidance as well.

Paleo is a dairy free, grain free and processed free diet. You consume high and lean proteins such as chicken, salmon  and ground turkey. You do not eat rice or beans or starches. It is strict, and to follow it you must be disciplined. I kept going at it for a few years, but my chocolate addiction grew heavy as did my love handles.

I started to implement rice back into my diet and BAM, weight loss! I was running, HIIT training and heavy lifting. I also ate some gluten free bread and ricecakes every once in a while. Here is what my meal plan looked like:
M1: 4 egg whites

1/2 cup gluten free oatmeal

1/4 cup blueberries

1 1/2 Tbsp almond butter

M2: 6 oz Coconut yogurt

1/4 cup gluten free granola

15 almonds

M3: 1/2 cup black beans

1/2-1 cup cup mixed veggies

1 cup basmati rice

4 oz ground turkey

M4: 1 apple rice cake

1 tbsp almond butter

Honey for taste

M5: 4 oz salmon

1/2 cup sweet potato


1 small-medium apple

Post workout: 2 scoop Organic plant based protein

1 apple or another fruit

Simple and easy to follow, right? Sure but I was starving. I couldn’t figure out why. Now I know why, and on the next blog you’ll see! For those looking to kick start their diet and unsure about a high fat, low carb diet, follow the one listed above. Your love handles will thank you.
